Charlie Parham

Director

Charlie is a director and writer working in theatre and film. With a focus on new writing, adaptation and musicals, he runs Antic Productions alongside producer Emma Hall. Charlie also recently worked as a Broadcast Producer at the National Theatre.

As director and co-writer (book & lyrics), Charlie is currently working on Starter For Ten at Bristol Old Vic and Birmingham Rep. His previous directing work for stage includes Collective Rage: A Play In Five Betties (Southwark Playhouse), School Play (Southwark Playhouse), For Those Who Cry When They Hear The Foxes Scream (Tristan Bates) and Hippolytos (V&A). Cabaret and concert credits as director include Carmina Victoriana (Wilton’s Music Hall) and Devotion (New Generation Festival, Florence).

For screen, Charlie recently worked as Associate Director and Second Unit Director on the musical film Greatest Days, inspired by the music of Take That and directed by Coky Giedroyc. Charlie previously assisted Coky on the live TV production of The Sound Of Music (ITV). As director, Charlie’s short films have received official selections at festivals worldwide, including Exit Eve (Erebus Pictures, starring Thalissa Teixeira and Hattie Morahan), Full English (Seek Films, Antic Productions) and Nightstand (Try Hard Films, Executive Producer Stephen Fry). For TV, Charlie directed musical special The Night Watchmen’s Nativity, a retelling of the Christmas story celebrating gospel music (Sky Arts, NOW).

As one fifth of drag supergroup Denim, Charlie previously toured the UK and beyond, creating shows for diverse venues and festivals including Glastonbury, Hyde Park’s British Summer Time, Latitude, Almeida and Trafalgar Studios. Sponsored by MAC Cosmetics, the band played successive sold-out runs at Soho Theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
